Our Volunteer Divisions

A Strong Community is formed by Strong Connections

Have you ever thought about being a firefighter, but don’t want to quit your day job?

Being a volunteer is a great way to do that and the benefits are endless. Chatham Emergency Services has five volunteers divisions that have personnel protecting Unincorporated Chatham County. This is a great way to serve the community, career growth, build pride, and create more than friendships. Like any job there are a few steps to take to become a volunteer firefighter. The first is requirements listed below:

1. Be at least 18 years of age

2. Be a legal United States citizen or possess current documentation to be legally employed in the State of Georgia.

3. Not convicted of a felony in any jurisdiction within ten years prior to appointment

4. Have a good moral character as determined by investigation of the candidates criminal history

5. Complete this Volunteer Firefighter Application.

6. Be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination

7. Pass the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council’s physical agility test (suppression/support only)

8. Reside in Unincorporated Chatham County Area

After the application has been submitted you will be contacted by a Division Chief for your coverage area. The next step is a  meet and greet with the volunteers of your division. This is away for us to learn more about you and you to learn about us.
